About Diving Adventure
Founded 1998. Still run by divers.
A one-room shop in 1998, a two-floor shop by 2000, a travel company in 2003, boats from 2004, and since 2015 a 5,000 sq ft centre on Lockhart Road — Hong Kong's largest dive shop and education centre under one roof.
Company profile
Diving Adventure was founded in 1998 as a single small shop. It grew to two floors in 2000, added Diving Adventure Travel Ltd in 2003, bought the 60-foot Adv I and Adv II in 2004, and moved to a 5,000 sq ft shop on Hennessy Road at the end of that year. In 2015 it moved again, to iHome Centre on Lockhart Road, to put the showroom and the education centre in one building.
Every year the centre trains dozens of professional instructors and more than a thousand divers. It is a PADI Five Star Instructor Development Centre and Career Development Centre, with five Course Directors and a full-time instructor team. Courses run from Discover Scuba through Advanced Open Water, Rescue Diver and Divemaster to instructor level.
Our instructors have taught the disciplined services, the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, LCSD beach lifeguards and international schools. Course times are flexible, because most of our students are working.
Founder
Stephen Au
Founder of Diving Adventure Limited, and of the Education, Travel and Training companies that followed.
Stephen has trained divers and instructors at every level for over ten years, with more than a thousand students on record. He has led dive trips across most of South East Asia, the Maldives, the Red Sea, Palau, Ecuador and Costa Rica, and has ice-dived in Hokkaido, Russia and Antarctica.
In 2005 he qualified as an IAHD Course Director and opened the Hong Kong branch, encouraging instructors to train in diving with disabled divers; by 2009 more than twenty had taken the IAHD Instructor certification. In 2006 he helped register IAHD as a non-profit association in Hong Kong and joined the Hong Kong Underwater Association as a club member. A committee of instructors and doctors followed. Programmes have run with the Hong Kong Jockey Club, HKKFHY Momentum Academy and Ebenezer School & Home for the Visually Impaired.

Why us
Diving is like driving. Before you learn, it looks dangerous; trained properly, it is a safe and exciting thing to do. The difference in both cases is a school, a standard and a licence — which is the whole of our argument for training here rather than on holiday.
PADI is the world's largest diver training organisation, and its standards travel — a card issued here works anywhere.
Instructor development runs here year-round, not as an occasional visit from abroad.
Computerised multimedia in several languages, with printed manuals and video.
Manufacturer-qualified technicians on the premises for the brands we stock.
Teaching insurance is held through PADI to protect students.
Sustained work promoting diving, and close ties with schools, government departments and community groups.
Through IAHD Hong Kong, registered here as a non-profit in 2006, instructors train to dive with disabled divers. Programmes have run with the Hong Kong Jockey Club, HKKFHY Momentum Academy and Ebenezer School & Home for the Visually Impaired, alongside Reef Check surveys with school groups.
We pledge to keep improving our service and to give customers the most convenient, reliable and workable answer we can. We set targets and hold ourselves to a high standard across every part of the operation.
